When did humans begin making music? Why did the rhythm of a drum or the sound of a struck string eventually cease to be enough? Why do we connect tones, develop melodies and harmonies, and ultimately build entire symphonies from them? Music is more than sound. It can express emotions, awaken memories, tell stories and connect people. Through composition, we began to shape sound consciously over time. And we keep inventing new tools for it. Instruments became more complex, orchestras opened new sonic worlds, and electronic instruments made sounds possible that had not existed before. In 2026, synthesizers, sampling and digital methods give us an extraordinary range of timbres. Yet the essential question remains the same: what do we want to express with them?
Images have a similar history. For millennia, humans have left visible traces of their world and imagination: on stone, papyrus and canvas, later on photographic film and digital sensors. Today, images are also created through 3D rendering, ray tracing and artificial intelligence.
The tools change. The desire to create something and preserve something of ourselves remains.
