Humans left their immediate surroundings, crossed unknown landscapes and oceans, and eventually began exploring space. But exploration is not only about travelling somewhere else. We open things, take them apart, rebuild them and ask: how does this work? Tools became machines. Mechanical calculating devices became computers. Room-sized systems became devices we carry in our pockets. Today, machines process language, recognize images and create music, text and virtual worlds. Artificial intelligence opens a new chapter. For the first time, we are building tools that extend not only our physical abilities but also parts of our intellectual work.
And yet the driving force is remarkably old: curiosity. What is possible? What comes next? And what can we do with it?
Technology expands the horizon. We still have to explore it ourselves.
