And sometimes a different point of view is enough to make something ordinary suddenly interesting. Humans have always observed their surroundings. From this came knowledge and science, but also art and aesthetics. We discovered patterns, proportions, colours and forms — in nature as well as in things we created ourselves. A mechanical watch can therefore be more than a device for displaying time. A photograph can be more than a record of a moment. Architecture, machines and everyday objects tell us something about their era and the people who created them through material, construction and design.
